Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock and son, Mathew de Kock, have several runners entered for this weekend’s race meetings. Mat filed his previews, below:
HWB Greyville (Turf), Friday 7 November:
Race 6, 1400m: “Ingqwele was disappointing on the Poly last time, but he was coughing after the race so we’ve brought him back to grass and he should return to form with a nice, honest run.”
Race 8, 1200m: “Dave The King starts his seasonal campaign in this sprint. It will be on the sharp side, but it’s a warm-up. He heads for Cape Town next week to contest the Green Point Stakes at HWB Kenilworth en route to the 2026 King’s Plate. He is three from three over 1200m, but this was much earlier in his career, so we’re looking forward to see how he sprints after his break as he is in good order. His mainly out there for a beneficial run, but include him in your wider plays. Gimmeanotherchance has been freshened and will need the run, we’re hoping it will be a good one.
Race 10, 1600m: “Queen Of Pearls is in a good space after her Maiden win. She steps up to a mile and we’d like to see how she goes off her 82 rating in this league. She is by Hawwaam, should like the extra and we give her a good eachway chance.”
Turffontein, Sunday 9 November:
Race 2, 1160m: “A newcomer here called Ruby From Heaven, by Gimmethegreenlight, who shows us in her work that she needs further than 1160m. She is quite green and immature still, physically and mentally. We want to give her a good first experience before we step her up to a more suitable trip.”
Race 3, 1400m: “Dawson’s Anvil is another first-timer by Rafeef. He is quite a nice type of horse, a big tall colt showing us some good work. He will need it slightly, but 1400m is a nice start for him, he has a big action. He looks to be ready enough for a podium finish.”
Race 4, 1160m: “Greaterix has raced below best recently as everyone can see. We have run some tests on him, he seems to be hemo concentrating. We have been aware of this and we have been trying a few things in between races. After this race we’ll make a decision based on his performance whether we push on, or geld him or the partners will have an option of sending him to stud. At his best he is certainly good enough to win. We haven’t seen that of late, so holding thumbs.”
Race 5, 1000m: “Roaming Spirit is in good form. In her last run there were circumstances and she turned for home last, we expected her to be handier. She ran well still, should have been closer and has a good chance in this race, if all goes well.”
Race 6, 1600m: “Destiny Of Fire has been running good, honest races of late. She’ll enjoy the sting out of the ground after the rain. Back to handicap level after the Grade 2 Spring Challenge, she must have a good chance, as that Spring Challenge form has been working out well.”
Race 9, 1600m: “Buddy Boy is a nice and up-and-coming young horse. I think he will appreciate the switch to Turffontein’s standside track with its long straight. He showed that in his Maiden win at Scottsville where there is a nice run-in and he relished it, and then wanted more time to unwind at Greyville. This is a tough division for a young horse, but he should acquit himself well. Include.”
